Member Resources - Professional Practice Panel

Dear member,

It can be stressful dealing with a complaint, an audit requirement or possible refusal of repeat registration by the Migration Agents Registration Authority (MARA).

Members often worry needlessly about these matters because they fear for their professional reputation and their livelihood.  Many do not understand MARA processes and want advice from an independent and experienced peer who can advise them about what to expect and how they might proceed.

As such, the MIA is offering a new, free service to its members who are having difficulty dealing with the MARA or in relation to a complaint to, or investigation by, the MIA Disciplinary Committee. This service will operate from 1 June 2007.

Experienced migration agents on the Professional Practice Panel (PPP) are prepared to assist members who have received a complaint against them, an audit request or advice of possible refusal of repeat registration by offering a "consultation" either over the telephone or in person for up to 30 minutes.

This service is available to MIA members only.

A list of contact details of the PPP members is on the "members only" section of the MIA website. Members wanting to access the service should telephone the panel member of their choice to seek advice.

I commend this new service to you and thank our member-agents who have agreed to provide this crucial support to their peers.

Regards,
Arnold Conyer,
National President
