Workshop 1: 9.15am - 12.30pm
Complex Issues and Case Studies: TPV, SHEV and Permanent Protection Visas
This workshop will examine visa options for asylum seekers and refugees. Those who arrived in Australia as unauthorised entrants may only initially apply for a Temporary Protection Visa or Safe Haven Enterprise Visa. These two visas impose rigorous requirements on these visa holders, in order for them to eventually progress to more permanent visas. Permanent Protection Visa applicants must meet a different, but no less stringent and narrowly prescribed criteria to be eligible for the grant of these visas.
Workshop 2: 1.30pm - 4.45pm
Complex Issues and Case Studies: Character Provisions, Cancellation Powers & Protection Visa Applicants
Protection visa applicants face more character hurdles than any other visa applicants. This workshop will focus on sections 501, non-political crimes and particularly serious crime definitions of the Migration Act, Public Interest Criteria 4020 and the new behaviour concern regulations for character and cancellation in the AAT.
Saturday, 1 April 2017

The workshop will conclude with discussion of the far reaching changes to the Citizenship Act and the potential impact on protection visa holders.
