WA Members' Mentoring Meeting February 2017 (Perth) 20/2/17
|Back to Events||
20 Feb 2017
Led by Lester Ong, SanLing Chan and a panel of experienced RMAs, the format of each session will take the form of case studies (based on real cases) and short-answer questions which form the context in which we explore the application of law to often complex fact scenarios, as well as, practice issues such as ethics and client management.
Throughout 2017 the WA Branch Committee will be hosting these Mentoring Meetings monthly and encourage participants to attend as many times as they wish.
Please register through the MIA’s website. Once you have registered for the event, if you have any specific issues or topics you would like discussed at the meeting, please email email@example.com with your suggestions.
A message from Lester Ong:
Happy new year. I trust that 2017 will be your best year yet.
At the end of last year, we went through a case study on how to handle an appeal in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. I hope that it’s given you some handles on dealing with an appeal and the confidence to represent a client in the Tribunal.
We also wrapped up the year with festive drinks and nibbles at our new venue, The Platform. I really enjoyed mingling with you and I hope you took the opportunity to get to know other of your colleagues a bit better. And thanks to those of you who stayed behind to help me clean up.
We are kicking off this year’s mentoring program with our first session on Monday 20 February 2017 at 5.30 pm (for a 5.45 pm start).
We will be holding the sessions this year at The Platform, Level 3, 256 Adelaide Terrace, Perth. The only tricky thing is that the building closes at 6 pm, so it is very important that you arrive no later than 5.45 pm. If you expect to come after 6 pm, please make sure you have the mobile number of a fellow attendee who you can call to come downstairs and let you in.
We will continue our mentoring sessions in the same format this year, going through real-life case studies and considering legislative, policy, practice and client management issues along the way. We may also look at bringing in external parties, such as DIBP, WA State Migration and skills assessment bodies so you can understand some of their internal processes a bit better. Watch this space!
I look forward to seeing you on Monday 20 February 2017.
