Distinguished Service Award

 

This award marks a special contribution made by a member on behalf of the MIA and its membership and is offered for services provided voluntarily to advance the migration profession and the objectives of the Institute.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this award, nominated individuals must meet the following criteria:

  • Not be a current staff member or director of the MIA
  • Have at least 5 years cumulative membership at the MIA

Selection Criteria

Selection for this award is based on the nominee meeting some or all of the following:

  • High Integrity and Compliance:
    Demonstrates exceptional integrity and adherence to the MIA Code of Ethics and Practice.

  • Active Participation:
    Actively participates in advisory panels, committees, and/or other MIA governance roles.

  • Provision of Mentoring:
    Engages in mentoring activities, either formally or informally, to support and guide others.

  • Supports the MIA's Advocacy and Research Initiatives:
    Assists with advocacy, submissions, and research that advance the MIA's objectives.

  • Pro-Bono Work:
    Contributes to pro-bono work for the MIA, providing valuable services without financial compensation.

  • Resource Creation:
    Creates valuable resources for the MIA that benefit its members and enhance their professional development.

Nomination Process

To apply for the Distinguished Service Award, follow these steps:

  1. Download: Download the nomination form here.
  2. Nominate: Complete the form as a self-nomination or third-party nomination.
  3. Submit: Email your application to [email protected] by the closing deadline of Sunday, 19 July 2025.
  4. Late submissions will not be considered.

Selection Process

  1. After the submission deadline, nominations will be reviewed and assessed by an expert panel based on the eligibility and selection criteria.
  2. Successful nominations are then submitted to the MIA Board for consideration and resolution.
  3. Nominees will be notified of the results.
